If you recognize the sumo mural and pink pleather seats as pictured above, it only means you've been to Ajisen Ramen in North York, ON.
Ajisen Ramen is a Japan-based chain of fast food restaurants serving Japanese ramen noodle soup dishes, Japanese rice dishes, and Japanese snacks/appetizers.
Ramen is a noodle dish served in a meat or fish-based broth often flavored with soy sauce or miso, and uses beef, pork or seaweeds for toppings.
One of my fave appetizers is Ajisen's Deep Fried Chicken Knee Caps, which I'm sure you have an idea what this is. You know that white soft bony-like structure attached at the end of leg/drumstick bone? Yes, that's it! A lot of people don't eat that part but the weird thing about me is that I love those ligamentous structures. Hehe! Served with mayo on the side, this appetizer is a blockbuster for me.
Another interesting appetizer is the Ajisen Octopus - a baby octopi dish cooked with some kind of reddish sauce and sesame seeds. I only tried this appetizer once, so I apologize for not being able to tell what exactly the sauce was. Maybe the next time I go back to Ajisen Ramen, I'll order this again and will remember to ask the server how this is cooked :D
Ciao for now !
